Wallingford, UK; Trainee Statistician

We are looking for a highly engaged and motivated Trainee Statistician to join our existing team of 8 Statisticians and Data Scientists primarily based in the UK offices who work across and support our global network of regional hubs. This role is based in our head office in Wallingford, Oxfordshire (between cultural Oxford and lively Reading). We are happy to consider candidates who have recently graduated or those looking for the next step in their statistical career.

The role itself will be extremely varied, interesting and challenging, using a wide range of tools from basic stats applications through to linear and non-linear modelling, multivariate techniques and analysis of variance. You will work as part of a strong team and be involved from project inception (contributing ideas to research design and how the data is collected) right through to analysing the results and offering insight from a statistical perspective on the trends observed in the data. In addition, the MMR team are constantly innovating and there will be many opportunities to help develop new techniques and refine existing ones in a highly stimulating and rewarding working environment.

Comprehensive training is offered to provide a solid induction into the application of advanced stats & analytics techniques in the research process, and in the use and application of our proprietary MMR methods and approaches.

Skills & Experience:

  • Either an MSc in Statistics or a degree which includes a minimum of 75% statistics (2:1 or above).
  • Experience of a range of statistical techniques, ideally including multivariate analysis, experimental design and statistical modelling.
  • Highly computer literate with skills in Excel and statistical software (ideally SAS)
  • Good time management & ability to multi-task effectively
  • Strong communication skills

This role will be based within the UK sensory team and will enable us to continue to grow one of our most innovative and exciting methodologies called EROS. EROS (Early Rules of Success) is a qualitative collaborative technique designed to help clients work towards perfect product briefs, so great client interaction and consumer understanding are key to add value to the process.

You will work across all MMR existing client teams and new ones too, which will provide a lot of variety in the product categories researched. Most of MMR’s work is food, drink and personal care related, so experience in these sectors is advantageous, to be able demonstrate relevant expertise to our clients.

Although the role is UK based, we conduct EROS all over the world, so expect plenty of opportunities to travel and explore new countries. Any foreign language skills are therefore advantageous.

Essential Skills

Sensory moderation – candidates should be able to elicit detailed sensory vocabulary from trained panelists and transfer these moderation skills to working with clients / untrained consumers

Sensory acuity– ability to articulate product sensory characteristics themselves and to provide clear argumentation / recommendation on product differences to support a product selection relevant to the project objectives

Passion for sensory research

Strong communication skills (fluent in written / spoken English is essential)

Durban, South Africa; Qualitative Research Manager

Are you an experienced qualitative researcher looking to progress your career within market research? Would you like to work as part of a small, dynamic team based in Durban for an independent, global market research agency specialising in the food, drink, personal and household care sectors?

After opening our South African office 18 months ago, we are now looking to expand the team and recruit a Qualitative Research Manager to join our small team based in Durban. The successful candidate will be working for some of the continent and world’s largest food, drink, personal care brands.

Key responsibilities within the role will focus exclusively on qualitative projects and include research design, proposal writing, hands on project execution, moderation and debrief preparation. The work covers a range of ad hoc projects and both traditional and online fieldwork. London, UK; Part-time Sensory Panellists

Interested in getting involved in the development & optimisation of products (no experience required)?

We are currently recruiting for part-time Product Evaluators / Sensory Panellists to be based within a client facility in Brentford, London. 

MMR Research Worldwide specialise in consumer and sensory market research in the food, drink and personal care sectors. We currently have two expert panels of Sensory Panellists based in Brentford and are now recruiting for our both our morning and afternoon panels. 

Sensory Panellists work both individually and within a team to evaluate products within the oral care, skincare and over the counter medicine categories and therefore candidates should have good sensory acuity (this will be tested at a screening session), and have the ability to articulate themselves in front of others. No experience necessary as full training will be provided.

We are currently recruiting for our afternoon panel (1.30pm to 4:30pm) on Mondays to Thursdays at £9 per hour (salaried role). Whilst we can’t always guarantee a place on your preferred panel, we will inform you at the earliest point of the process if this situation should occur.

 This is a permanent role and therefore is not suitable for students.  Because of the extent of training you will have to pay back training costs if you leave the panel in the first 3 months after joining.

Unfortunately, if you have any dietary restrictions (e.g. you are a vegetarian), skin allergies or sensitive skin, mouth piercings, food intolerances or allergies or have any medical conditions (or take medication that may result in dietary restrictions) this position will not be suitable as sensory panellists are required to test a varying range of products depending on projects.
