MMR Chairman Professor David Thomson will present Emotion in
Commercial Product Research at this week’s SAS Conference in Boston MA.
The Society of Affective Science is a non-profit
organization dedicated to fostering basic and applied research in the variety
of fields that study affect. Their annual conferences showcase research drawn
from psychology, medicine, neuroscience, computer science, law, economics, anthropology,
linguistics, sociology, business and other related fields.
Professor Thomson shines a spotlight on the shortcomings of
commercial research in understanding emotion due to the inherent flaws of
self-reporting, and suggests an indirect questioning method that could better
predict emotional outcomes and longer term consumer choice behavior.
