Innovation Program Director Cubo/Princes ‐ Liverpool

This is a genuinely unique (we’re not just saying that!) and exciting opportunity for a Senior Insights or Innovation professional to work for a ground‐breaking agency whilst helping to shape the future ofinnovation on the client side for Princes in Liverpool. It really does represent the best of both worlds, working for an agency with creativity at its core, but embedded deep into a client organisation.

Cubo is a new type of innovation agency, a joint venture between Food Innovation Solutions (Innovation strategy, culinary concept and product development) and MMR (with its global researchexpertise).

Cubo blends culinary creativity (the ability to make amazing products ourselves), with consumer input (placing customers at the heart of innovation) and a strong commercial edge (to ensure what we helpcreate succeeds in market). We’re seeing success with clients of all sizes, from start‐ups to the world’sbiggest corporates. We’re breaking down innovation barriers and internal silos, opening‐up new sectoropportunities and bringing a truly agile, creative and inspiring approach to NPD. It’s creativity with a commercial core!

Cubo has been selected by Princes as their out‐sourced innovation partner.

This isn’t a normal agency<>client partnership, instead Cubo will take responsibility for support creating and shaping a wide range of innovation streams, taking projects from the ideation stage through to commercialisation.

You’ll work alongside the clients own marketing, R&D and commercial teams, but lead the innovation process, leveraging the culinary and creative skills that exist within Cubo, the research skills frompartner agency MMR and accessing third party partners as relevant.

Princes have ambitious aims for their innovation. Moving from a traditional stage‐gate style process to something much more disruptive and agile. Not just about innovating via line extensions, but potentially bringing new brands to life and pushing their product range into new and exciting areas. The ambitions are big, and the partnership is intended to reduce the constraints often present within a typical corporate environment – this is not about more of the same, so be prepared to challenge and to push!

    The partnership is brand new, and will evolve over the next 12 months, hence the role itself is somewhat fluid and shapeable by the individual lucky enough to fill it! A few aspects are in placethough;

    • The intention is to bring consumers right to the heart of innovation, so an online community will sit at the centre of things, providing always‐on access to consumers and enabling a huge range of cost‐effective and rapid research to be conducted in real‐time at all stages of the innovation process
    • You will be supported (onsite) by a more junior Cubo employee (already in place). They will run the community and coordinate research and other activities, but you’ll very much lead the program, be the face of Cubo, and be responsible for growing; the junior employee, the profile of Cubo, and the new approach to innovation within Princes.
    • You’ll report to and be supported directly by both the Co‐founder of Cubo (who will be actively involved in the relationship side of things and on‐site in Liverpool once a week), the remainder of the Cubo team and of course the resources of the FIS & MMR Groups.
    • This role is Liverpool based (in the Liver Building itself) It will come with an attractive salary and benefits package, commensurate with the experience and skillset that you bring to the role

As the role is unique, we’re open to applications from a range of different people. If pushed we’d say the ideal is for an experienced Market Researcher/food innovator with:

    • Some client‐side experience in an insight, marketing or innovation role
    • Some agency side experience, with insights/research an advantage
    • A strong knowledge of innovation and how insights can be used to help shape this
    • A huge amount of enthusiasm and a self‐starting mentality – the role and the partnership have a massive opportunity to be shaped and forged
    • A passion for food and drink
    • A willingness (and urge) to want to challenge the status quo, to try new things, to learn quickly and to be creative in your thinking, yet practical in your application

Full training on the ‘Cubo way’ and the research and consultancy toolkit will of course be provided, both via your induction and direct on‐the‐job.

    Global Head of Sensory Research

Are you a senior, commercially focused, sensory expert looking for an exciting next step in your career? Do you thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy both delivering fantastic work and developing strong client relationships?

    Role

MMR Research Worldwide are looking for a Global Head of Sensory Research (quant and qual). This new role, whilst a detailed and strong understanding of sensory panel work within a Market research environment, is a strongly commercial role focused on driving the scale and development of MMR’s sensory operations globally.

We’ve already built a great reputation in the sensory area (stretching wider into product research and development), and we’re one of very few sensory players with panels in different markets (currently US, UK, China and Singapore, but with the potential to expand if demand exists). We want to capitalise on this advantage, together with our ability to offer the right sensory solution for our clients’ individual needs*, with the aim of becoming the dominant player in the global sensory space.

Due to the skillsets we envisage the successful candidate will have, we would like them to also take on a role heading-up our sensory qual team (this is a real point of advantage for MMR in the market, and a central part of our consumer research growth strategy).

    * We’re not constrained by operating a single profiling model, we can run DA and Spectrum style profiling, as well as having a whole host of alternative data collection methods up our sleeve!

Global Head of Sensory (primary responsibility)

We need an individual who can build and execute a revolutionarily sensory strategy, one that challenges existing market norms and status quo, and who can provide a compelling vision for growth. The business is prepared to invest to provide what’s required to achieve our agreed aims, and this individual will be expected to lead the sales and marketing effort, driving demand both within existing clients (expanding out) and finding new clients to step-change our sensory revenue over time. We expect to grow not only our own internal ad-hoc panel base, but also win more contracts from clients looking to out-source their sensory panel delivery.

There is excellent infrastructure in place to support this role, with a newly formed commercial team providing access to significant senior level sales resource and high-end marketing capability. We have a large team of seasoned sensory professionals that ensure our quality of delivery is maintained at the highest levels, as such, whilst there will be a role in defined client needs and designing solution to address these, the core focus of this role will not be hands-on delivery – that’s already well catered for (albeit you’ll need to ensure the team is structured, resourced and trained effectively).

From day one you’ll start with a best in world capability, which includes agile and out-of-the-lab methods, ensuring a firm foundation from which to build a more transformative strategy.

The role will dovetail with the wider MMR eco-system, with sensory being a vital and integral part of our wider consumer service offering, all designed around the over-arching principal of helping clients to unlock the sensory power held within their brands. It’s an exciting and ‘of-the-moment’ positioning, and one that’s really resonating with clients. We believe that the granularity and pinpoint direction that we can bring to the table through the use of sensory data can be a real growth driver for MMR in this space.

The role will report into the Global MD with potenrial down-the-line for the role to be Board level. It will be massively high profile both within MMR but also into the industry – where you will be expected to become (with the support of others) MMR’s voice in the sensory community (aiming to drive perceptions of MMR as leading the way in changing the world of sensory).

Local sensory leads and other senior sensory personnel will report directly into this role.

Global Team Lead for Sensory Qual (secondary responsibility)

Our highly skilled, globally based, sensory qual team feel a close connection back into the sensory community, so it’s felt that combining a Sensory Qual Team Lead role with the Head of Sensory role makes complete sense, both motivating for the team, and providing another string to the bow when talking to clients about sensory as the two can very easily be packaged-up into a seriously compelling offer.

The main aspects of this role will be based around representing Sensory Qual requirements into the Board, setting strategy (alongside the existing Global Head), taking ownership for ensuring that career development plans are in place, and ensuring that resourcing of projects is owned within the team. In essence it’s about being a figurehead for the team and ensuring that their personal and career development is given a high priority.

This is not a role for someone who wants to focus on running the day-to-day operation of a sensory team. This is a role for someone who wants to be at the forefront of driving change, of delivering edgier, thought-provoking messages to clients, and owning the development of MMR as the most exciting, forward-thinking player in the world of sensory.

Whilst our preference would be for the role to be UK based, we will consider applications from people based anywhere in the world. We understand this is a tough role to fill, so compensation with be commensurate with the individuals experience and skillset, and will include a healthy base package, with the opportunity to earn significantly more if growth can be driven strongly.

For more information please apply here and  member of our recruitment team will be in touch.

Key responsibilities within the role will include proactively developing client relationships, advising on appropriate research design for various client challenges, impactful proposal writing and taking responsibility for quality of project delivery. This means adding value to debrief presentations via data interpretation and commercial awareness skills to ensure actionable results consistently land with stakeholders. The focus of business development will be in strengthening immediate client relationships, extending relationships within the client company beyond immediate contacts as well as helping develop brand new relationships

    Requirements

This coaching and mentoring aspect will require you to build a complete understanding of the full project cycle in order to be able to help develop others.

Agency experience (ideally ad hoc) is essential for this role. Much of MMR’s work is within the food, drink, household care and personal care industry so relevant experience of this sector is advantageous and product testing experience is ideal.
